Lancaster Golf Club head professional John Barclay has been named Lancashire's Golf Participation & Development Coach of the Year.

- by Craig Salmon

The 48-year-old has been recognised for his consistent hard work and the difference he has made to the development of golfers both at the club and throughout the county.

A PGA coach for 25 years, Barclay worked as head coach of golf at Myerscough College for several years before moving to his present role at Lancaster around 10 years ago.

He is also the county lead coach for the academy programme which looks after all of Lancashire's aspiring young players.

Currently, there are around 100 youngsters who are part of the academy with Barclay heading a team of eight other coaches.
