Cable theft leads to serious delays on rail network

A day of disruption, delays and cancellations on trains across the north west yesterday was caused by a cable theft.

Trains through Wigan North Western were disrupted for most of yesterday, which has affected trains across multiple operators including Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express and Northern.
The disruption was expected to continue until the end of the day. National Rail initially said 12pm, and then 4pm, with the time moving back.
