Badosa and Raducanu in cruise control
Khaleej Times
|February 17, 2025
An early start under cloudy Dubai skies failed to stop Paula Ba- dosa from producing bright tennis as the Spaniard show cased a dazzling array of shots on the Centre Court.
Fresh from her maiden Grand Slam semifinal appearance at the Australian Open last month, the ninth seed was unstoppable on the opening day of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, dismantling Lulu Sun of New Zealand 6-3 6-4.
Later in the first match of the evening, former champion Elina Svitolina of Ukraine put last year's runner-up Anna Kalinskaya of Russia to the sword with a ruthless display of attacking tennis, win ning the match 6-1 6-2.
British favourite Emma Radu canu, who received a wildcard for the tournament, came up with a superlative display to beat Greece's Maria Sakkari in straight sets (6-4 6-2).
In the morning, Badosa was in cruise control as three breaks of her were enough for the Dubai res- ident to clinch her opening match in two sets.
