Welfare Is Govt Responsibility, Not Charity: CM

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the welfare of all sections of society is the government’s responsibility and not an act of charity.

Speaking at a one-day event on “Empowering Communities ~ Welfare for All” at the SKICC, organized by the Social Welfare Department, he stressed that welfare schemes must prioritize the most disadvantaged, not just the privileged. “Social welfare schemes are neither favors nor generosity. They are the rightful due of citizens who face greater hardships. Any government ignoring those fails in its duty,” he said.
