FEBRUARY 28 ISSUE

Remembering the life and legacy of a beloved mentor whose guidance and character left lasting marks on students, communities, and hearts throughout Kashmir.

- Syed Abadi Hamdani

Twenty-eight years ago, a doyen departed this world, and his homeland has felt that loss ever since.

This week, as his anniversary returns, heartfelt tributes rise for Allama Mir Sheykh Mehdi Hussain Hamdani Najafi, the teacher who touched countless lives and lit them with a righteous way of living.

He entered the world in 1937, part of a generation that valued struggle, discipline, and sacred learning.

Early on, he joined Sultanul Madaris in Lucknow, a leading center of Shia scholarship in the subcontinent, where he built strong foundations in religious sciences.

His thirst for deeper knowledge then took him to the holy city of Najaf, where he immersed himself in advanced studies under towering scholars such as Ayatollah Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei and Imam Ruhollah Khomeini.

Those years refined his intellect, strengthened his spiritual insight, and deepened his moral clarity.

Armed with learning and purpose, he returned to Kashmir with a strong sense of duty toward his land and people.
