Lifeboat tows lone sailor to safe harbour

MARGATE'S inshore lifeboat was called out to rescue a lone yachtsman in danger of running aground on offshore sandbanks last week.

HM Coastguard received a call at around 7pm last Friday (June 27) from the sole occupant of a 7m yacht experiencing rudder problems and drifting three miles north of Margate.
Despite attempts to anchor, the yacht was caught near the sandbanks as low tide approached.
