Inner Wheel goes to 'Ascot' for night of fundraising fun
Isle of Thanet Gazette
|July 04, 2025
ON Saturday, June 21, Westgate and Birchington Inner Wheel held their final fundraiser of the year in Westgate Community Centre, in support of the club's chosen charity the Daniel Baird Foundation.
-
The charity was set up by Daniel Baird's mother, after he died of a stab wound on a night out in Birmingham. He was an ordinary lad enjoying a night out with friends when a fight broke out; he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
There was no first aid or bleed control kit available, and Daniel died shortly after arriving at hospital due to catastrophic bleeding. His life should not have ended in this tragic way, and the charity now works to provide catastrophic bleed control kits in strategic publicly accessible locations, where they could save other lives.
The Inner Wheel's aim is to purchase as many kits as possible for strategic places in Westgate and in Birchington.
