'KOBBIE SHOULD FIGHT FOR JOB'

And the United boss says the academy graduate should use Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo as his role models.

The United greats both had spells on the bench, but knuckled down to fight for their Old Trafford futures.

Mainoo is yet to start a league game this season and could leave on loan next month, with Napoli leading the list. But Amorim, whose no-nonsense words echoed that of Old Trafford legend Roy Keane on Friday, said: "Kobbie needs to fight for his job. That is not a bad thing to be on the bench of Manchester United when you are 20-years-old.

"I remember Ronaldo was on the bench, Rooney was on the bench sometimes. Juan Sebastian Veron was not playing. I remember all the history of Manchester United and nobody.
