Wessel has to try not to ship goals at Tolka

SHELBOURNE have raided the MLS for a new goalkeeper as first-choice Conor Kearns will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Towering Dutchman Wessel Speel has been snapped up on loan from Minnesota United, but Shels were last night waiting on his international clearance.

Speel needs that to play any part in tonight's big Champions League clash with Azerbaijan kingpins Qarabag at Tolka Park.

Kearns (inset) suffered a hamstring injury in last week's European draw away to Linfield in Belfast, and backup Lorcan Healy came off the bench to replace him.

Healy will start against Qarabag tonight, but Shels boss Joey O’Brien is delighted to get a deal for Speel over the line.
