VILLA TO COMPLAIN OVER COSTLY ERROR

FURIOUS Aston Villa will lodge a formal complaint with the Premier League after a refereeing row cost them a Champions League place.

Morgan Rogers put Villa ahead in the 73rd minute at Old Trafford yesterday - only for the goal to be ruled out and United to go on and claim the victory against 10-man Villa.

Manchester United keeper Altay Bayindir did not have the ball under control when it was taken out of his hands by Rogers.

But referee Thomas Bramall blew for a foul before the ball entered the goal.

That meant his decision could not be reviewed by VAR.

Defeat at Old Trafford consigned Villa to the Europa League after they finished sixth and missed out on a €100million ticket to the Champions League spot on goal difference.
