Voters left to pick least worst option

- JOE O'SHEA

IT MAY be fast turning into the most underwhelming Irish presidential election in living memory - but at least Jim Gavin's former tenant could be getting their €3,300 back.

In yet another strange moment from the Gavin campaign, Fianna Fail’s pick for the park has had to admit to a possible mistake made in 2009, when a couple who had been living in a flat he owned in Dublin overpaid their rent because their bank never properly cancelled a standing order.

The former GAA manager has promised to look into it and settle the bill if one exists.

It sounds like the kind of thing which easily happens in Ireland (given the way our banks do customer service) but it kind of sums up the Gavin campaign so far, just a succession of missteps and weird moments along with a general “what the feck is happening now?” vibe about the whole thing.
