HOOPS SKIPPER McGREGOR SAYS, FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION AS RODGERS PAYS ULTIMATE PRICE

- BY RYAN MCDONALD

RINSE and repeat has long been the mantra at Celtic.

Win after win. Cup after cup. Title after title - the Hoops have reigned supreme in Scotland for decades.

But this season, those words carry a very different kind of meaning - and last night Brendan Rodgers paid the price for the failings as he exited Parkhead for a second time as manager.

The Hoops have appointed Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney in charge of first team affairs on an interim basis as Rodgers was slammed by majority shareholder Dermot Desmond for undermining trust in the club.

But speaking before last night's sensational news broke in the east end of Glasgow, Hoops skipper Callum McGregor called on his teammates to stand up and take their share of responsibility. McGregor's comments - and Rodgers' departure - came in the wake of Sunday's dismal defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle which saw the Hoops fall eight points behind the Jambos at the top of the SPFL table.
