Onana blunders cost United first-leg edge

STINGS OF LYON

ANDRE ONANA had a night to forget as his two blunders cost Manchester United victory in Lyon.

Onana's first gaffe handed Lyon the lead last night in the 26th minute, he missed a free-kick and the ball went straight in.

Leny Yoro equalised for United just before half-time and Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to put them ahead in the 88th minute.

But with United on the brink of victory, Onana spilled the ball, allowing Rayan Cherki to equalise.

Before the game Onana had claimed that, 'it's not going to be easy but I think we are way better than them'.

That led to former United midfielder Nemanja Matic calling Onana 'one of the worst keepers in Unted's history'.

"(It is) important to focus on the next game for the league and then think about the second leg against Lyon," said United boss Ruben Amorim (below).

"When one player has a mistake, all the team has a mistake so we continue like that. We continue to do the same thing. Training, seeing the games, trying to choose the best 11 to win every match."

Worst

"We are really disappointed (to concede late). We should have taken a one goal advantage to the next game but we have the next game at home we will try to win that game."

United defender Yoro added: "I think this is the worst moment to concede a goal like that.

"We were winning 2-1, I think away this was a good score but we go with a draw and we try to win the game at home.

"We defended really well but they are a good team, a good striker, so we need to be ready for everything but unfortunately we concede the goal."
