'Star Wars' bar celebrates birthday with special whiskey

ONE of Ireland's oldest bars has been serving beers from the most northerly point on the island since 1825 and is to launch its own whiskey to celebrate.

Farren's Bar at Malin Head in Donegal will mark its 200th birthday next month with a huge party, according to owner Hugh Farren.

He revealed the bar proudly boasts the unique tradition of being solely in the same family for two centuries and is now to become a whiskey brand.

Ireland's most northerly bar's 200th birthday follows turbulent times, periods of debt, seasonal closures, and fun times with icons of Hollywood film Star Wars.

Hugh said: "It's very rare to be 200 years old, but it's even more rare to be 200 years old in the same family.
