He said: “She took with her not just a love of a place to Fermanagh, but a love of sport.

“She was obviously a sporting person herself and she established a hurling group up in Fermanagh, which would not have been easy, I am sure, among young people and fully kitted them out with all the gear.”

Meanwhile, the GAA club in Barefield, where Vanessa developed her love of Gaelic games as a child, also paid tribute to her.

Vanessa was a keen camogie player with St Joseph's before she moved north of the border.

GAA club chairman Garrett Greene told this paper its members were shocked by the killings.

And he said the Whyte family - including Vanessa, her late father Joe and brothers Stephen and Ivor - had a long association with the club.
