Pope vows to help bring about peace

POPE Leo XIV yesterday vowed to take “every effort” to work for peace in war-torn Palestine and Ukraine.

In one of his first acts as pope, he spoke by telephone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who invited him to the country and thanked him for his support.

Leo has in the past called Russia's war in Ukraine “an imperialist invasion in which Russia wants to conquer territory for reasons of power given its strategic location”.
