Mulvey returns with a spiritual album

- By Cathal Ryan

SINGER-songwriter Nick Mulvey has told of his “deep respect for Irish culture" ahead of his string of shows kicking off around the country next week.

The UK artist is touring his newest album, Dark Harvest (Pt. 1), which was released earlier this year, which was born out of a period of loss, challenge, independence and empowerment for the songwriter.

"It comes from quite rich soil," Nick told The Scene. "In a way of my personal life in the sense that, a lot was breaking down actually, and a lot was coming apart behind the scenes in my life.

"And I think there was the success I'd had in my music over the years and it was kind of covering up, in a way, some of the things that were not in good health in my life. I had two kids quite quickly, and the demands of the second kid was definitely a lot.

"I had to look very deep inside myself, because I was like, 'This isn't working. My life isn't working'.

"And I had to really look at a lot of my core, kind of orientation... the way I navigate life and how I'm approaching life, I caught, you know, I guess my spirituality.
