100-year-old POW pics taken in secret at Kilmainham

DARING snaps taken by prisoners locked up during the War of Independence have finally been unveiled - revealing a never-before-seen snapshot of life in Ireland's most infamous prison.

The historic photographs were secretly snapped by inmates using cameras smuggled into Kilmainham Gaol back in 1921, hidden away right under the guards’ noses.

The archive shows how the men took their minds off the iron bars, misery and death sentences that awaited many of the Irish rebels.
