HEALY'S REALLY DRIVEN TO STAR

ERIN HEALY is embracing the 'surreal' experience of an Ireland call-up - having considered quitting the game for the corporate world.

The American-born forward, who plays for Adelaide United, is a newcomer in Carla Ward's squad to face Turkey away in the Nations League on Friday.

San Diego native Healy graduated from college with an accountancy degree and dipped her toe in that world during an internship.

But a spell in Portuguese football with Club de Albergaria saw her shelve ideas of retiring, before then moving Down Under where she was Adelaide's Player of the Year.

Now Healy wants to leave her mark on the international stage, going into Friday's clash with Turkey and next Tuesday's game with Slovenia at Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.
