Criminal justice system is there to deal with Musk's porn deepfake Al tool, says Taoiseach

THE law will penalise X for its Al tool which is turning photos of women and minors into pornographic deep fake photographs, the Taoiseach has said.

The Minister of State for AI, Niamh Smyth, is seeking a meeting with Elon Musk's X over the deeply worrying tool that has become commonplace on the social media app in recent weeks.

Ms Smyth said the circulation of these images is illegal both under EU and Irish law.

Speaking in Shanghai on the final day of his four-day state visit to China, Micheal Martin refuted suggestions that the widespread use of this tool shows there is a gap in the current legislation.

He said: "The law is there and my view would be that the existing law can deal with it.
