Cost of living debate is hit by power cut

Irish Daily Star

|

July 10, 2025

THE Dail was plunged into temporary darkness by a power cut during a debate on the cost of living.

- BY LOUISE BURNE Political Correspondent

And Social Democrats' TD Jennifer Whitmore asked, "Have you paid the electricity bill, Minister?"

The debate did continue as the microphones in the chambers were working, with chairperson Catherine Connolly stating: "Sound is more important than vision."

Meanwhile, Housing Minister James Browne warned "tough decisions" will have to be made as part of Budget 2026 as he failed to commit to increasing the rent tax credit.

This is despite the Programme for Government vowing to "progressively increase the rent tax credit".
