Conlan is hungry for a Paddy's Day shot at title glory

MICK Conlan is almost certainly on course for a world featherweight title fight early next year after a convincing fourth round stoppage win over Jack Bateson.

The crucial element proved not to be the beating of the average-to-poor Leeds fighter but proving to the TV companies he was still a box office spectacle.

Conlan turns 34 in November and is two fights into his then 10 year-old daughter Luisne convincing him to return to the ring: it's an age that will see him in a hurry to get a title shot.

Disappointingly, though, for the fighter in a hurry, none of the five recognised boxing titles are unified — but then not all of the titles are 'equal'.

Loosely speaking the WBC is considered the most prestigious of the world championship belts due to its history and ability to attract top fights.

The Ring title which is linear — you have to beat the last/current holder of the title — is associated with the famous boxing magazine/oracle and considered the most authentic.
