RECORD April temperatures will not be repeated this bank holiday week- end with the daytime mercury to fall as low as just 9C.

- BY SEAN MURPHY

A top reading of 25.9C in Athenry, Co Galway, on Wednesday was the hottest April day in Ireland on record, exceeding the 25.8C that was recorded in Glenties, Co Donegal, in 1984.

Highs of 24C were reached in Cork yesterday but temperatures today will be no higher than 13C-18C, and tomorrow will range from 12C-16C.

Sunday will range from 9C-11C for northern counties, representing a stunning 16C national drop from Wednesday's record-breaker.

Temperatures farther south on Sunday will range from 11C to 15C, while Monday is forecast to be around 11C to 14C nationwide, according to Met Eireann.
