Emery’s side shrug off early-season rustiness to come from behind and get their first three points

- BY JOHN TOWNLEY

ASTON VILLA ended their worst-ever start to a Premier League season as they came back to beat Fulham.

Villa had never gone more than five Premier League matches without a win at the start of a campaign.

Yesterday's clash at Villa Park was the longest they have had to wait for a victory in a league season since 1969, where it took them 10 games to register a win.

And they did not do it the easy way, with Ollie Watkins finally ending his goal drought as Villa put their goalscoring woes behind them.

They had scored just once this season, but Watkins doubled that tally when he levelled after Raul Jimenez had put Fulham ahead.

Captain John McGinn completed the comeback four minutes into the second half, before substitute Emi Buendia extended the lead in front of the Holte End.

Fulham started on the front foot and forced an early advantage as striker Jimenez scored his first league goal of the season.

But the Mexico international was replaced shortly after by Adama Traore due to injury.
