'Hungover' hero Lowry reflects on golf's historic fairytale in New York
RYDER cup hero Shane Lowry declared he "still can't believe it" and said winning the tournament was a "lifelong dream".
The Offaly man, 38, who putted the winning shot in Bethpage Black, was visibly emotional and fought back tears after clinching victory.
Speaking immediately after winning on Sunday night: "I've been so lucky to experience amazing things in this game ... that was the hardest couple of hours of my whole life.
"I just can't believe it, I can't believe that ball went in ... the Ryder Cup means everything to me."
The Europe team were certainly in the mood for celebrating after a hard-fought win.
Lowry, who was spotted holding a bottle of Bulmers, led a rendition of The Cranberries' song Zombie.
The whole bus can be heard singing as Rory Mcllroy held up the Ryder Cup as his name was chanted.
Following the knees-up, Lowry tweeted yesterday: "I might have a hangover."
It comes as Padraig Harrington said he believes the course at Adare Manor in Limerick will be more challenging than in New York.
He also said when the tournament returns to Ireland in 2027 it will likely be more of a "pleasant experience" for all.
ABUSE
The Dubliner said he "wasn't surprised" at the abuse directed towards the European players, but revealed the team "were well prepared for it".
US fans faced heavy criticism over their behaviour at the tournament which led to play being interrupted on multiple occasions.
Both McIlroy and Lowry were subjected to several taunts during the tournament.
McIlroy's wife Erica Stoll was even targeted and was also struck with a plastic beer cup that was thrown by an American supporter.
