World braces as Don's Iran electricity plants strike deadline looms

- BY ANDY LINES Chief Reporter and ASHLEY COWBURN

THE world is on tenterhooks today as US President Donald Trump's chilling threat to "hit and obliterate" Iran's power stations edges closer.

Mr Trump, right, posted that the US would smash Iranian power plants - "starting with the biggest one first" - if Tehran did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

He may have meant the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which was hit last week, or Damavand, a natural gas plant.

The time his deadline is due to run out is 11:44 pm tonight, if the countdown started from when he posted.
