MyFutureFund is coming: What does it mean for you?

From January 2026, employees aged between 23 and 60 and earning €20,000 or more per year across all jobs, and who are not already contributing via their payroll to a pension scheme, will be automatically enrolled into the MyFutureFund retirement savings scheme:

WHAT IS MYFUTUREFUND?

MyFutureFund is a retirement savings scheme, coming into effect in January 2026. Two thirds of workers in the private sector are not actively contributing into a pension scheme through their payroll, leaving themselves open to a drop in living standards once they retire.

To tackle this, the government has introduced a new initiative which is likely to help around 750,000 workers in Ireland.

People who do not have a pension scheme through payroll, earn more than €20,000 per year and are aged between 23 and 60 will be automatically enrolled into the new system. This means they will have extra money when they retire.
