New star McLynn on Corrie role

CORONATION Street newcomer Pauline McLynn admits landing a major role on the soap was a career surprise.

The actress, 63, best known as Mrs Doyle in Father Ted, said she is 110% behind playing interfering mum-in-law Maggie Driscoll.

Pauline, who has never auditioned for the ITV soap before, said: "I was bewildered. I'm not one of those actors who has goals or even ambitions.
