DAVID MCCAGUE hailed Rory Beggan as an “amazing man” after his kicking masterclass helped Scotstown clinch their first Ulster Club title in 36 years.

- BY PADDY TIERNEY

The Monaghan men saw off the challenge of Kilcoo following extra-time at the Box-It Athletic Grounds on Saturday night.

Beggan also produced two fine saves as he kept a clean sheet as well as scoring 0-11.

“It’s phenomenal really. He’s an amazing man, Rory Began,’ said Scotstown boss McCague.

“He's so humble, so modest. Around the club he’s quite a shy and quiet fella. But when it comes to training, he's really driving standards and really driving young people on.

“He's a brilliant man socially as well, with the young fellas. We're just blessed to have him. I don't have the words to describe how grateful I am as a Scotstown club man to have a player like Rory Beggan.

“The skill he has is probably testament to how he has crafted that over a long number of years. I remember when he was a 15 or 16 year old out practising frees. It's a gift that he has, but it’s a gift that he has because he’s worked so hard at it.

“His bravery, his composure. I don't have all the words to say how grateful we are to have him.
