As Debbie Webster's big day arrives, there's more drama ahead for the Weatherfield hotelier. Actress Sue Devaney tells us more
-
She's finally found love with Ronnie
As Debbie Webster continues to adapt to life with young onset vascular dementia, she's determined to go ahead with her extravagant wedding to her true love, Ronnie Bailey.
But Sue Devaney, who first played the fan favourite in 1984, warns that her big day won't go without a hitch thanks to her warring siblings Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Carl (Jonathan Howard).
"Debbie wants a big extravaganza of a wedding," shares Sue. "She wants everything: flowers, flamingos, big hair, peacocks, a big dress - the works. She feels that this might be the last massive party that she has, she wants to do it in style. No expense spared."
Sue, 58, hopes Debbie won't let her brothers' feud spoil the wedding of her dreams. The hotel owner hasn't had much luck with men in Weatherfield, dumped by tearaway Dazz in the 80s, before her scheming ex Ray Crosby brought trouble to her door in 2020, a year on from her return to the Cobbles.
But Debbie has finally found The One in Ronnie amid the devastation of her diagnosis. "She's never found true love until now," admits Sue. "I think because Ronnie said to her, 'I'm not going anywhere, you might be poorly, you might have dementia, but I'm sticking by your side,' she just sees that as true love."
