Irish Daily Mirror
|January 15, 2026
A MEMBER of An Garda Siochana has admitted to dangerously driving his private vehicle while off-duty and leaving the scene of an accident that claimed the life of a well-known GAA coach.
Michael Ball, who has been suspended and was based at Drogheda Garda Station at the time, appeared before Judge Nicola Andrews at Dundalk District Court yesterday in connection to the death of Niall McEneaney.
The fatal incident happened in the early morning of March 17, 2024, at the Rathmullen Road in Drogheda, Co Louth.
Mr McEneaney, who managed Termonfeckin club St Fechin's to the last two Louth senior hurling championship titles, was found unresponsive shortly after 2.40am on the Rathmullen Road.
He was pronounced dead following the arrival of emergency services.
The Director of Public Prosecutions directed that Ball be charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Mr McEneaney on March 17, 2024 and failing to keep the vehicle at the scene.
