EX-BOILER FITTER TURNS UP HEAT ON PLATE RIVALS

Golden Rules will aim to avenge his 2023 near-miss in the JenningsBet Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday for his little-known Welsh stable. His trainer Thomas Faulkner used to fit boilers, but he is hoping to engineer a fairytale victory for his Monmouthshire yard in one of the year's hottest summers.

David Evans’ four-year-old filly has not finished out of the first four in seven appearances, winning one of those at Wolverhampton in March.

Last time out, she took on the in-form Beaming Light at Chepstow but pushed the odds-on favourite hard to finish just a half a length down with the front two clear of the rest.

She faces another opponent enjoying a rich vein of form, likely favourite Banksman, but Alice's Impact can get the job done under Richard Kingscote (above).
