DRAW WON'T MAR' ROSSIE PROMOTION

DAVY Burke said it was a case of 'job done, but maybe in a roundabout way,' after his Roscommon side secured promotion in Mullingar yesterday.

- BY GERRY BUCKLEY

Burke's men were denied a win with seconds left by a sublime two-pointer from Westmeath veteran Kieran Martin, the Rossies going up alongside Monaghan, despite an unexpected draw against the already-relegated home team.

Burke added: “We knew a good bit about them, and Westmeath don't need me to tell them how well the way they have played in the League, scoring a lot.

"So, I'm just glad we eked it out and it will be great to be playing in Division One in front of big crowds next year.”

Despite an early goal from Luke Loughlin, Westmeath were generally outplayed in the first half.
