CHRISTMAS DAY CRASH HORROR

A MAN has been killed following a Christmas Day collision between an e-scooter and a car in Co Waterford.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses following the incident at the junction of Manor Hill and Hennessy's Road in Waterford City at around 11am yesterday.

The driver of the e-scooter, a male in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he died.

Supt McCauley also said electric scooters and bikes can be extremely dangerous and urged parents to think twice about buying them as Christmas presents for their children.

He revealed that gardai seized an e-scooter that was capable of going more than 90kph.

He said: "First of all, I would like to make it absolutely clear that e-scooters are a dangerous piece of equipment if used wrongly and that anyone under 16 is not allowed legally to ride an e-scooter on the road.

"I know it's a very attractive present and I'm sure there's lots of people out there, young people, that want an e-scooter. But you cannot have one on the road if you're under 16.
