Gardai want mobster's lieutenants charged over the feud slaying of Eddie

- BY MICHAEL O'TOOLE

Cartel's bunch of Ed cases

GARDAI want mob boss Daniel Kinahan and his most trusted lieutenants charged over the feud murder of Eddie Hutch.

The Irish Star has learned the DPP is considering whether enforcers Sean McGovern, Gary Finnegan and Trevor Byrne should now face prosecution over the killing of Gerry "The Monk" Hutch's brother.

We revealed last year that investigators had asked the DPP to charge Kinahan himself over the fatal gun attack on the 58-year-old in February 2016.

But an Irish Mirror investigation has established detectives have also recommended some of his key henchmen face prosecution.

We have established around 10 suspects are named by gardai in the investigative file - with a recommendation they all be charged in relation to the killing.

The murder was the first Kinahan killing in response to the Hutch gang's attack three days earlier on the Regency Hotel.

imageAn armed gang dressed as gardai had intended to assassinate Kinahan, 47, but while he escaped, mob enforcer David Byrne, 34, was shot dead.

His death sparked the bloody feud that saw 18 men dead.

CONSPIRACY

Sources say several of the 10 suspects are believed to have played small roles in the overall conspiracy but gardai believe others played a more important part.

But it will now be for the DPP to decide if any of them should face charges.

And sources said gardai believe if charges are laid, some of them will be hit with murder, while others may be accused of conspiracy or even facilitating the killing.

imageOne source said; "It is very much on the hands of the DPP where this case goes next."
