On-the-run teacher arrested and in Mountjoy over contempt of court

- BY MICHAEL O'TOOLE Crime and Defence Editor

ENOCH Burke is back behind bars after being on the run for a week, it has emerged.

The Irish Mirror has confirmed that the teacher was arrested by gardai early yesterday and brought to Dublin's Mountjoy Prison by around 2.30pm.

It is Mayo-born Mr Burke’s fourth spell in the Victorian prison - and has already spent more than 500 days locked up there.

His arrest came exactly a week after a High Court judge ordered the imprisonment of the sacked school teacher.

Gardai then called to his house in Mayo twice with the paperwork to bring him to prison - but left empty-handed on each occasion.

And on Friday, Mr Burke reappeared back at Wilson's Hospital in Westmeath, where he was sacked from in 2023 after a disciplinary hearing.

Mr Burke had not been seen since the order by Justice Brian Cregan last Tuesday to have him imprisoned.
