Navy to get tough on Russian tankers

THE Defence Forces could board Russian oil tankers to help stop how the country is funding its attack on Ukraine, the Defence Minister has said.

Helen McEntee is due to publish a new maritime security strategy in the coming weeks, as she said Russia is “a threat to everybody”.

The minister said there is already a law in place that would allow Irish soldiers to board foreign oil tankers if there are security concerns, and her proposal only relates to Russian shadow fleets.
