LS clocks 111% productivity, RS 121% as stormy Parl session ends

The 19-day winter session of Parliament ended on a stormy note on Friday with the government describing the sittings as highly productive and reform-oriented and the Opposition vowing a public agitation against the new Bill that replaces Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005.

The 15-sitting session saw the government introduce 10 Bills and both Houses pass eight of these. On productivity, both Houses scored well. The Lok Sabha productivity stood at 111 per cent and the Rajya Sabha's at 121 per cent.

The most consequential draft legislations that cleared both Houses are--The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill, 2025, to open India's hitherto controlled nuclear sector to private capital and The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) or VB-G RAM G, replacing MNREGA.

The session also saw two major discussions--on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram which Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened in the Lok Sabha and the second on electoral reforms and special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
