JOHN Cartwright has stressed that Hull FC's final round defeat should not take anything away from what the side has achieved this year.

Loss doesn't detract from what we achieved

The Black and Whites were defeated 26-22 by Catalans Dragons at the MKM Stadium on Thursday. They trailed 26-12 in the second half before launching a late rally to try and snatch the game.

They took that surge to Catalans until the very final minute but couldn’t land the decisive blow.

The result means that Wakefield Trinity take Super League's sixth and final playoff spot, ending Hull’s season, one which has seen significant steps made after a dismal 2024 campaign.

Cartwright said: “I’m disappointed for a lot of reasons. We didn’t want to finish the year that way, but hopefully it doesn’t take away from what these boys have been able to achieve.

“It was a funny game to prepare for. Whether we won or lost, or even if we had won, the chances were it was probably going to be over for us anyway.
