Eagle-eyed officer foiled plan to smuggle drugs into prison

A WOMAN smuggled a stash of drugs into a prison in a brazen bid to pass them over to her boyfriend while she was visiting him there.

But the plan badly backfired when an eagle-eyed prison officer suddenly spotted a suspicious-looking package on the floor near her feet and quickly seized it, Hull Crown Court heard.

Jessica Ryan, 28, and her ex-boyfriend, Scott Clements, 37, both admitted being involved in conveying items into prison on February 12, 2023.

Stephen Welch, prosecuting, said that Clements was, at the time, a prisoner at HMP Humber, near North Cave, and Ryan visited him there. A prison officer spotted a small package near Ryan's feet.

It was seized and was found to be 11 Buprenorphine tablets and a small amount of cocaine. CCTV pictures were checked and Ryan was seen passing the drugs to Clements. “It’s small quantities,” said Mr Welch.
