Hotspur await playoffs after dead-rubber defeat

HOLYHEAD Hotspur completed their regular Ardal North-West league season with a 3-1 defeat at Porthmadog - sealing third place for Port though with nothing at stake for the visitors, their playoff place already secure.

Danny Brookwell put the hosts ahead on five minutes before Hotspur equalised with a Cory Williams penalty on 17.

Hotspur were unlucky not to take the lead just after the break, hitting the bar amid a string of chances for both sides, but Porthmadog went ahead through a Cai Jones header on 66 minutes and secured victory through a John Littlemore tap-in on 77 minutes.

Hotspur still have four possible opponents in the playoffs for promotion to the JD Cymru North - depending on the last handful of fixtures, any of Bow Street, Llanuwchllyn, Brickfield Rangers or Dolgellau Athletic could still finish runners-up in the Ardal North-East.
