Labour-intensive items' export to US may rise

India may enhance export of labour-intensive products to the US and import industrial goods from the country to achieve the $500 billion bilateral trade goal by 2030, people aware of the development said adding that officials from both sides will bilaterally resolve the issue of tariffs that involve less than 10% of the 12,000 products the two countries trade.
The joint statement of PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump on February 13 will guide bilateral engagements on all trade matters, the people added, requesting anonymity.
Even as New Delhi is waiting for Washington to announce the appointment of key officials "to negotiate the first tranche of a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall of 2025" as mentioned in the joint statement, it is planning a comprehensive stakeholders' engagement, the people said.
