In new guidelines, IIT-B asks students to avoid inappropriate' and biased questions

MUMBAI: Nearly six months after alleged caste-based discrimination on campus became a major row following the death of a first-year student, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, (IIT-B) on Sunday instructed its students that it is "inappropriate" to ask anyone about their JEE Advanced rank or GATE score or any other information that could reveal their caste or may perpetuate bias and discrimination

The institute unveiled a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at curbing various discriminatory practices among students.

The initiative was taken after an appeal by the Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle (APPSC), a student collective at IIT-B, following the student's death on February 12. Responding to the students' demand, the IIT-B administration took proactive steps to ensure a safer and more respectful environment for everyone on campus.
