IATA assigns Jewar airport location identifier - DXN

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), a global trade association of international airlines, has assigned the Noida international greenfield airport, currently under development in Jewar, its unique three-letter location identifier of DXN, officials aware of the development said on Wednesday.

This code will used on ticket bookings, boarding passes and baggage tag designators, among others, said Noida international airport (NIA) officials.

A location identifier, commonly known as the IATA code, is unique to each individual airport and prevents any ambiguity between countries and cities. From flight schedules, ticketing, and baggage handling from one airport to another, to streamlining and regulating communication, operations, and logistics, IATA codes help bring the identity of an airport alive at each level.

The three letter codes are often based on the first three letters of the city the airport is located in. For example, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport has the IATA code of DEL.
