Homemaker, her assailant met each other at local gym

A day after a 23-year-old man shot and killed a 42-year-old woman in southwest Delhi's Dabri Extension before turning the gun on himself, police officers privy to the case on Friday said the two met at a local gym and became friends, but the woman's family disapproved of their friendship.

To be sure, police are still probing the motive behind the murder-suicide as preliminary investigations have only revealed that the two were on talking terms, the officers cited above said.

Police said the man, identified by his first name, Ashish, shot Renu Goyal, a homemaker, outside her house at Vaishali in Dabri Extension on Thursday night.

He killed himself minutes later, using the same countrymade pistol, on the terrace of a three-storeyed building in the neighbourhood where he lived with his family in a rented flat, police said.
