Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday announced the expansion of the coverage of the state's subsidised cylinder scheme to 10.5 million families and promised an annual honorarium of ₹10,000 to the women head of families, if the Congress retains power in the state in the upcoming elections In December last year, Gehlot announced that the Congress government in the state will provide 12 cooking gas cylinders annually to poor households at a subsidised rate of ₹500. The scheme covers those below the poverty line and enrolled in the Ujjwala scheme.
Addressing a rally in Ardawata village of Jhunjhunu district on Wednesday, Gehlot said: "1.05 crore (10.5 million) families will get LPG cylinder at 2500 when the Congress government is formed again in the state."
Besides, the CM also announced implementation of the "Grah Laxmi Guarantee", under which 10,000 will be credited every year into the accounts of one woman per family in the state in two or three instalments.
Polling for the 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan will be held on November 25 and the votes will be counted on December 3.
Speaking at the event, Gehlot said the Congress always delivers on its promises to the public. "We promised to give smartphones to women, and delivered them to four million women," he said, and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party will discontinue all these schemes if it is voted to power.
"The Congress plans to make Rajasthan the number 1 state in the country by 2030, and this dream cannot be fructified without the contribution of women.
