Actor's deepfake video raises misuse concerns; Centre issues warning

A viral deepfake video of actor Rashmika Mandanna on Monday sparked concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to further gender violence online, prompting minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar to remind social media platforms of their legal obligations under the new IT rules.
Chandrasekhar also described deepfake videos as the "latest and even more dangerous and damaging form of misinformation" and said "it is the legal obligation of platforms to ensure no misinformation is posted by any user and when reported by any user or the government, the misinformation is removed in 36 hours." The minister's remarks on X came after the actor expressed concerns over the sixsecond clip and misuse of technology. The video has garnered over 20 million views on the micro-blogging site.
