12,444 moved to shelter homes

Amid heavy rains in Gujarat over the last three days, at least 12,444 people living in low-lying areas in five districts were evacuated and shifted to shelter homes, while 617 stranded residents were rescued on Monday, officials said.

According to Gujarat relief commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey: "A total of 12,444 people were evacuated from low-lying areas affected by heavy rains in Narmada, Bharuch, Vadodara, Dahod, Panchmahal, and Anand districts. A total of stranded 617 people were rescued from these regions." According to officials, over 6,000 people living along the banks of the Narmada river in Bharuch district have been shifted to safer places in the last two days after the water level discharge rose to 40 feet due to from Sardar Sarovar Dam.
