The Jharkhand high court on Friday rejected the bail petition of former state minister Alamgir Alam, who has been in jail since May 15 last year in connection with a case of money laundering earned through commissions for awarding government contracts, an advocate close to the matter said.

"Judgment was reserved on June 26 after arguments from both sides. Today, the bench of justice SN Prasad announced that the bail petition was rejected. Advocate Zoheb Hussain argued on behalf of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in virtual mode. Advocate S Nagamuthu argued on behalf of Alam," the advocate said.
