NEW DELHI:

The home minister said that the Modi government stands like a rock in support of the people of the Northeast.

"Spoke with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh and Governor of Manipur in the wake of ongoing heavy rainfall in their states. Also assured them of every possible help to tackle any situation," he wrote on X.

Many parts of the northeastern states were facing a flood-like situation due to heavy rain.

Over 78,000 people have been affected in more than 15 districts in Assam due to the flood.

Road transport and train and ferry services have also been hit due to the inundation caused by heavy rain across the state over the last few days, officials said.

Heavy rain wreaked havoc in Manipur with 3,802 people affected and 883 houses damaged due to floods and landslides across the state in the last 48 hours, officials said on Sunday.
